Robert Payne Smith Death Notice

Published 1895
SHOW MORE

Dean of Canterbury, R. Payne Smith authored the Thesaurus Syriacus, a definitive lexicon that had rich citations and rare definitions of idioms. As a result it often functions as an index to much of the Syriac literature published up until the late nineteenth century. The death notice calls him one of the Anglican Church's "ablest scholars and noblest men."

Published in New Outlook, Volume 51.
